I had asked for suggestions of movies, and Tomcats was the first one I saw, so I’ve decided to go on the Canadian Netflix and watch it. I like Jerry O’Connell and I have little to no expectations for this movie…
As a movie about being “tomcats forever” this movie wasn’t that bad. I actually got quite a few laughs from it.
I have to admit, they have a lot of faces in the movie that I recognize from other things. Jerry O’Connell of course, David Ogden Stiers (MASH), Shannon Elizabeth (American Pie), and Jake Busey (Starship Troopers) to name a few. And with that recognition also comes a wave of relatively good acting. I’m not claiming that anybody in this movie is superb, because that’s not what is required from it. They pull of the laughs and I felt for the characters, that was good enough. As David Ogden Stiers is one of my favourite actors from MASH (although really, I love everyone from MASH) it was really lovely to see him in this.
Nothing in this movie was groundbreaking, it was all of the normal gags and sexual humor one should expect from this kind of a movie. I laughed out loud quite a few times and had reactions to many of the jokes. Once again, nothing extraordinary was required and nothing extraordinary happened. The movie delivered on what it set out to do: garner a few laughs.
My Rating: Because I had minor expectations from the movie I have to say it delivered, and possibly surpassed them. I’ll give this a 6.5/10.
