Oscars 2014 — Best Visual Effects

Visual effects are the processes that involve combining a live action shot with generated imagery. CGI (computer generated imagery) is the most commonly awarded aspect of this Oscar, and when films create new techniques they frequently receive the award.

  1. Gravity – The sure winner this year, they created almost everything we see in the film in post production. There’s no way anything else can pick this up.
  2. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – All three LotR films won in this category and the first Hobbit was nominated.
  3. Iron Man 3 – All three of the Iron Man films have been nominated, none have won.
  4. Star Trek 2 – Both of JJ Abrams’ entries into this franchise have been nominated.
  5. The Lone Ranger
