Oscars 2015 — Visual Effects

Standard

Visual effects are used in films to produce imagery not possible while producing the shot. CGI (computer generated imagery) receives most awards in this category at present. Films that create new techniques are normally set to win the award, however this year there wasn’t a groundbreaking moment like last year’s Gravity.

Interstellar is the big, impressive special effects movie of the year. None of the big summer movies were as much of a blockbuster success as expected like in previous years, so it isn’t as easy to tell which is the favourite. Also surprising is the exclusion of The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies from the nominees. It didn’t win for either of the other films in the trilogy, so it looks like that was unsuccessful.

  1. Interstellar
  2. Guardians of the Galaxy
  3. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
  4. X-Men: Days of Future Past
  5. Captain America
