Screen Actors Guild Nominations – Full List!

Standard

The Screen Actors Guild awards are always a fun show, voted by other actors in the profession. Sometimes that makes for very different results to the rest of the awards shows, but usually it’s a good indication to see what people in the industry have been enjoying.

This year’s nominations have been announced, and Manchester By the Sea leads with four nominations. Moonlight and Fences got three nods each. The Critics Choice darling La La Land only picked up two for their co-leads Gosling and Stone – who haven’t yet won for their roles.

Check out the full list of nominees below, plus a look into who was snubbed and what surprised me!

I was happy with everything in leading male actor, especially with the surprise for Captain Fantastic and Viggo Mortensen getting some awards love. It’ll be a tough category to get a win from since everyone has put up strong performances.

Over on the actress side however… that’s where it all went a little weird for me.Of course, Meryl Streep clinched another nomination for Florence Foster Jenkins. I expected to see Annette Bening get recognized for 20th Century Women, a role people had predicted would bring her lots of success. The biggest surprise here? Emily Blunt’s nomination for The Girl on the Train. Wasn’t that movie kind of, unsuccessful? It feels like so many people missed out here, including Jessica Chastain, Isabelle Huppert, and Ruth Negga (Miss Sloane, Elle, and Loving, respectively) that were all nominated at the Critics Choice or Golden Globes.

The supporting actress category found some diversity this year, with a majority of nominees going towards people of colour. Moonlight and Fences are also both strongly represented this season, so hopefully that trend will continue onto the Oscars in February after the #OscarsSoWhite controversy over the past few years.
