I was disappointed not to see Arrival on this list for Jóhann Jóhannsson’s moving, low-key score. Unfortunately, it was disqualified due to the inclusion of a Max Richter composition. Manchester by the Sea and Silence were also deemed ineligible.
La La Land is primed to pick up this win since the music is such a prominent feature of the movie everyone has been raving about this circuit (just remember to separate the score from the songs with lyrics when judging this category).The only previous nominee in the list is Thomas Newman for
It’s surprising to see so many newcomers in this category since the music branch of the Academy is known for sticking close to their favourites and not openly welcoming others. The only previous nominee this year is Thomas Newman for Passengers who is very unlikely to win. As is anyone against Hurwitz.
