Oscars 2017 – Best Foreign Film

This year’s nominations have been involved in some controversy since Donald Trump’s Muslim ban has all but knocked out the Iranian filmmakers of The Salesman from attending the award ceremony. Although it is currently on hold, the director Asghar Farhadi has said he will not attempt to cross the border into America.

As it was one of the frontrunners against Toni Erdmann (a three-hour German comedy, if you can believe it), this has all but pushed it over the edge as Oscar voters are furious.

  1. “The Salesman,” Iran
  2. “Toni Erdmann,” Germany
  3. “Land of Mine,” Denmark
  4. “A Man Called Ove,” Sweden
  5. “Tanna,” Australia
