My Favorite Murder looks at local BC murders during JFL NorthWest

Standard

Every episode of My Favorite Murder, Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark tell each other their favourite tales of murder and hear hometown crime stories from friends and fans.

Just remember: stay sexy, and don’t get murdered.

What’s great about events like this is everyone knows what to expect, so the brutal topic of serial murderers and isn’t going to turn anyone away. And that’s especially important when they mention Robert Pickton right at the start – we have some serious serial killers to choose from up in this area.

Karen and Georgia know how to work a crowd really well, starting off by chatting about recent events and some local news before moving on to their murders of choice. I wasn’t sure if they would pick new ones for each tour date – since they’re doing seven shows in quick succession. But lucky for us, they focused on some local killers – and that personalization really made them friends in the audience.

Karen started off with Cody Legebokoff, one of Canada’s youngest serial killers who murdered three prostitutes (Jill Stuchenko, Natasha Montgomery, andCynthia Maas) and a 15-year-old girl (Loren Leslie) before being sentenced in 2014. Georgia took on Clifford Olson, who confessed to murdering 11 children and young adults (names and ages are all included on his Wikipedia page) in 1982 before dying of cancer in 2011.

They managed to make a table and chairs on stage feel like their living room as they had a conversation. They mostly focused on each other and the stories they were telling but allowed for audience interactions, and once hometowns started and they opened up the floor to others, they really shined. Karen and Georgia have this gift at making people feel comfortable, able to open up and tell stories of horror. They riff off each other and those that come up, making the show so full of life.

You can find previous episodes of their podcast on iTunes and wherever else you listen! Check out what else is playing at JFL NorthWest and find me at some more shows next week! Follow my Snapchat (renelaide) for all the updates.
