Oscars 2017 – Best Supporting Actress

Standard

Viola Davis seems locked to win here for her stunning, emotional performance in Fences after Paramount removed her from the very tough lead actress category and put her to supporting instead. But there are a few other great performances this season that are nominated, as well.

Our predictions and further analysis are below:

Davis has 2 previous nominations and for this role, Davis won at the Critics Choice, Golden Globe and SAG Awards. Michelle Williams was barely in Manchester by the Sea, but one heartbreaking scene near on secured her spot on this list. She has 3 previous nominations. If not for winning in 2012 for The Help, Octavia Spencer would be giving these two a run for their money in Hidden Figures.

Naomie Harris is the only first-time nominee this year, for indie drama Moonlight, and last up is Nicole Kidman for Lion who has two previous nominations and one Best Actress win for The Hours.

  1. Viola Davis – “Fences“
  2. Michelle Williams – “Manchester by the Sea“
  3. Octavia Spencer – “Hidden Figures“
  4. Naomie Harris – “Moonlight“
  5. Nicole Kidman – “Lion“
