Blending multiple contemporary ice-dancing techniques and adding a splash of percussion couldn’t make me love this show. Vertical Influences underwhelms but still looks pretty nice.
It wasn’t the fast-paced, high-energy show I expected, but it also didn’t create a melodic ice-dancing spectacle as something like this could have. They occasionally pushed into figure skating sections with jumps and spins, but would quickly veer off into other components once that got started.
I couldn’t shake the feeling that this was incredibly similar to Stomp, a world-renown percussion dance performance. It was clearly reminiscent of that show with the thumping music and defined, if not well-developed, characters. Overall, Vertical Influences left me yearning for what could have been.
