Vancouver TheatreSports’ The Christmas Queen returns in all her nasty glory in TWO new shows this winter season. Christmas Queen 4 – Secret Santa and Christmas Queen Drag Race with special guest and drag star, The Unstoppable Connie Smudge.
The previous three editions of Christmas Queen saw HRM (Her Royal Meanness) hilariously thwarted in her attempts to ruin Christmas. This year is no exception. Secret Santa is an all-ages show where confusion and hijinks ensue when the Queen and Santa exchange bodies in a Freaky Friday-style magical sleight-of-hand.
The Drag Race features the Christmas Queen and Connie Smudge putting some of VTSL’s best through their paces to crown a new Drag Diva by the end.
Every show is different with new audience suggestions and games each night. Inspired by British panto, this is a unique theatre style usually performed during the Christmas season including a character of the ‘Dame’ — a male actor performing an older female role in drag.
I’ve been excited about the next Christmas Queen show since they wrapped up last year’s Bachelorette-inspired season, and this one couldn’t have been better. VTSL’s improvisers are some of the best I’ve seen and in these shows, they do a great job of bringing out the best in audience participation while still maintaining their theme.
“I love that our audiences have made The Christmas Queen a holiday tradition. The show is just the right blend of naughty and nice to please every member of the family. This year’s instalment is sure to bring a big gift of laughter with some added twists and surprises for your stocking. It’s a great way to get into the holiday spirit,” comments VTSL Artistic Director Denise Jones.
So check out one of these great shows this December: Christmas Queen 4 – Secret Santa runs now through December 23, Wednesday through Saturday’s at 7:30pm and Christmas Queen Drag Race runs Saturday’s through December at 11:15pm.
