Review: Merry Kiss-Mas finds the comedy in cliched Hallmark movies

This Christmas season, Vancouver TheatreSports has turned to Hallmark Christmas movies for comedic inspiration.

The cast begins with some short scenes inspired by real Hallmark and Netflix original holiday movies. Here, the performers pull out all the Christmas movie cliches to great effect, including Christmas Queens, a Scrooge-like mayor, and a love interest with a tragic backstory.

The second act brings a Christmas love story to life with an audience member starring in a personalized Christmas movie, guided by the talented VTSL cast. It’s a risky play to bring someone on for a full half-hour set, but it worked to great effect.

Merry Kiss-mas runs through December 24. To see ticket prices and show length for all our shows, click here
