The underwhelming Golden Globes + Full Winners List

We’re back with another season of awards shows culminating in the Oscars on February 24. Although the Globes aren’t too helpful for predicting Oscars winners, they are one of the most fun shows. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) is a group of 100 or so foreign press who have a lot of thoughts, but not much connection to the guilds or expansive Oscars voters. But celebrities get a little drunk and sloppy which makes it the most laidback and fun show of the year.

After last year’s #MeToo and Times Up focus, this year was noticeably different. Although some were seen wearing a TIMESUPx2 white bracelet, the red carpet was back to its usual glitz, glamour, and colourful gowns.

Hosts Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg started the show off with a ‘Gervais-style’ roasting of all the actors—as in, saying really nice things about people. They had a few gags throughout the night that fell completely flat like giving out flu shots and The monologue felt pretty stale but ended on a somewhat inspiring note by Sandra Oh.

The night held few shocking wins or losses. This year, Jeff Bridges was awarded the Cecil B Demille award for 2019. Carol Burnett was also honoured with an award of her own for special achievements in television.
