Castle’s mother knew they were having sex, so she convinces him to tell his daughter but Alexis doesn’t give him much of a reaction. When he tells Beckett that Alexis and his mother knows she worries that Alexis will tell Lacey who will tell Esposito who will blab to Ryan. When Ryan knows they expect he will tell their boss, Captain Gates, who doesn’t like Castle. As she warms up to him throughout this episode I really think they may be alright. Until she hates him again. Oh well!
Castle Family Drama:
Castle’s daughter Alexis is finally moving out for university. While she’s packing everything up she tries to bring much more than she should which leads to Castle getting concerned. He also starts thinking about all the freshman boys that will be in the dorm with her which concerns him even more. Ah, watching Castle being all paternal is so cute. When he brings Alexis to her dorm she calls on her father to do what he always did when she was a little girl: he checks under her bed for monsters. It’s so cute that he does it and later gets teary-eyed, trying to pass it off as allergies. Richard Castle is such a wonderful, incredible man.
A woman, Wendy, is found murdered after a slow death from a gunshot wound with the word lie written next to her in blood. Her boss in Philly accuses her of stealing $400,000 and heading to New York with it, but his alibi checks out. The track her journey back to a storage locker facility where they are auctioning off room 317 (what it turns out her message said). They go to the auction and after all but one other man drops out, he risks it all to win. While going through the items in the locker they find this creepy doll that Gates gets really excited over and Castle gives it to her for free so she can complete her collectors set. Immediately I know that something is going to be inside it that means she doesn’t get to keep it, but initially it’s so cute because she reads his books and enjoys them and gets all girly. They find that Wendy’s twin brother Wendell was owner of the storage locker before ‘accidentally’ being pushed in front of a subway train. After researching Wendell, they discover he may have robbed his rich employer Angelica of an expensive diamond bracelet. Later, they realize she faked the missing bracelet for insurance fraud, but Wendell still did steal something from the house.
“The butler did it!” Throughout the episode they were leading up to breaking the china doll Castle gave Gates, and finally when they do they discover a glass eye and USB stick. Photos of a ten year old hit and run combined with DNA on the glass eye from the man who fled the scene led to one of Castle’s favourite things he probably ever got to say while working with Beckett. Angelica’s butler had his spare eye stolen during the robbery which led to him finding Wendell and Wendy and killing both of them so they wouldn’t discover he was the one who fled the scene ten years ago. Unfortunately, that didn’t seem to work too well for him.
Castle and Beckett secretly take a romantic trip away together until trouble ensues which brings in their colleagues.
What did you think of the episode?
Last week, we started the season with Beckett finding out the full story of her mother’s murder and she struck a deal with the politician involved. Also, her relationship with Castle got real as they decided to start dating.
Beckett and Castle are discussing how to handle their relationship while in public. They both decide to pretend to be single while at work and “act normal”. Seeing as Castle has always been in love with Beckett he overcompensates which leads everybody to think something is either weird or really good between them. Beckett is expected to be sleeping with someone but Laney doesn’t think it’s with Castle. He’ll definitely want to prove to people that she’s with him. Since they decided to pretend to be single, he accepted when a bikini-clad interviewer asked him out. As he’s about to leave to meet her at the restaurant, Christina shows up at Castle’s place ready to seduce him, still in her bikini. Beckett gets pocket dialed as she’s attacking him and thinks he is being attacked so she goes to his place only to find him under Christina. Although initially angry, Castle solves the case from the gossip Christina tells him and then they make up after deciding only to tell people they’re dating others instead of actually doing it. I feel like this was the obvious decision to begin with, why Castle thought he would get away with even fake-dating someone known as the interviewer in a bikini is beyond me. At least he’s paid back when Beckett can’t kiss him because she still pictures Christina pushing her boobs into his face.
They still haven’t got over their grievances when Ryan didn’t back Beckett in to the finale from last season. It’s unfortunate that they’re not getting along because their such great friends and they’re always so fun together (their repartee is amazing, just google it). I understand that they need time to reconcile, and some of their angry bickering is really cute, but I just want them to be friendly again. Of course, Ryan could just continue to wear makeup to cover his black eye and everyone can rib him on that for a little while instead. By the end of the episode they’re starting to get back to their old selves when Esposito sees that Ryan took a punch for him. D’awwwwe, they can’t stay mad at each other for long!
The weather girl, Mandy, was killed by a single gun shot after a struggle. They easily track down her cell phone and other stolen belongings to a man with priors for stalking and indecent exposure. They discover Mandy and the other weather girl, Rebecca, got in a fight the night of the murder. Although they immediately assume the lighter TV makeup on Mandy’s shirt was from the weather girl, I suspect one of the male reporters to be the killer. It’s too obvious to have an up and coming weather girl as the killer and if one of the men were rejected by her that’s reason for murder too. Once Rebecca’s alibi checks out, they look for Mandy’s secret lover. As Esposito and Ryan go to talk with Reggie, his bodyguard knocks Esposito out. Clearly, there are things he’s hiding, but if the bodyguard is arrested isn’t it easier to arrest the star as well? Once again, they’re rerouted after Reggie states him and Maggie were just friends. This time, they find out she was sent to the ER, but before that…she had a relationship with one of the reporters. Not that it seems to be of any importance just yet. She went into the ER after having an asthma attack while doing something on a “life or death” helicopter ride. They discover that Mandy realized a factory was emitting extensive toxic chemicals into the air and was threatened by that company before she was murdered. They realize she has a partner in her boyfriend, who turns out to be the killer like I predicted! She wanted to immediately reveal the story to help make lives better but he wanted to wait so he would get the exclusive. As he went to threaten her she fought back (good girl!) which lead to the him accidentally shooting and killing her.
Next episode brings an auction… Doesn’t that sound exiting? It didn’t really give me any good clues for what to expect in next episode, so we shall see next week!
I like that they aren’t causing any irreparable damage between either of the two major friendships of the show. The Castle/Beckett relationship is definitely going to be revealed to their friends soon after everybody seriously suspects it.
Things that would normally frustrate Beckett that Castle does didn’t seem to this week. When he was in front of the green screen (totally cute) and pretending to fly with the New York skyline behind him she just got really giggly which was adorable, but does this mean that the entertaining frustrations about each other will no longer bring added comedy? No, no it really won’t. I don’t think there is any way for them to lose their comedy.

The new fall shows are upon us, and with that we get the new season of Castle.
Rick Castle is a mystery writer who, after using his connections with the mayor, follows around Detective Kate Beckett and her group to gain inspiration for his new book series.
If you’re only starting this season, then here’s the major things you need to know. Beckett’s mother was murdered when she was young and ever since becoming a detective, Kate Beckett has made it her mission to solve the case. Recently, she has become obsessed with the case after finding new leads which lead to her being shot at the end of third season. Rick Castle, the novelist, has always been in love with Beckett but has had problems with telling her until she was slipping in and out of conscious after the shooting. After Beckett was shot, she was even more obsessed about her mothers case, but Castle keeps trying to convince her not to search for the murderer as her life hangs in the balance. On last seasons finale, Beckett showed up at Castle’s apartment where they proceeded to share their emotions and have sex.
The morning after their proclamations of love, they wake up in Castle’s bed and discuss how happy they are that this finally happened. Suddenly, Castle’s mum is coming into the apartment and Beckett is forced to hide in his closet. She ends up sneaking out as Castle deals with his mother and daughter, but later on gets mad at him for hiding her. When he goes to her place later and Esposito is shows up, Castle refuses to hide in Beckett’s closet which leads Esposito to wonder what is going on with them. Later, when Esposito finds them locked in a room together he overhears part of a conversation that makes him wonder even more. Clearly the hiding of their relationship is going poorly.
Although Beckett and Esposito resigned at the end of fourth season, they are still investigating the case. Kevin Ryan, the only detective in their group still working for the NYPD, finds the photograph they had been looking for which would tell them who had the files saving Beckett’s life. Castle and Beckett link it back to Michael Smith who is being tortured by Maddox (the man hired to find the files and kill Beckett) but they find him after Maddox has left. When they figure out the clue Smith left for them at his semi-demolited apartment building, they are ambushed by Maddox and locked in a room together. Luckily, Esposito finds them and they search for Maddox and the files in the building. They find him as he is opening the safe, but when he pulls out the files it trips a bomb which kills him and tears the files into shreds.
Later, Ryan shows up at Beckett’s apartment with a bag that has as many of the file pieces as he could gather at the crime scene. Although Esposito is hurt by Ryan’s “lack of loyalty” the four of them all band together to find information that will help them find the head of this investigation. They discover an account number that shows someone was paid off so they wouldn’t talk about the ransoms and murders, and it leads to a politician being groomed for Presidency. Clearly, these detectives are out of their league. Not according to Beckett of course. She goes off to confront the man at a donor event, and they make a tentative deal: she won’t reveal his involvement (and she’ll stop obsessing over her mothers murder case), and he will stop trying to have her and her friends killed.
I’m so excited that Castle and Beckett are finally together and, although I know there will be hiccups in the relationship, I really hope they have a lasting, happy thing on this show. The fans have wanted this too much for so long that they couldn’t destroy it anytime soon, could they? I mean… No other love interests have ever really come into play with either of these characters, so fans haven’t been able to gain much connection with any pairing other than this one.
I’m concerned about this deal Beckett made with the politician. He’s a politician so he probably can’t be trusted, especially with that weird twinkle in his eye as he agrees to the deal. As long as Beckett follows with her agreement then perhaps he will stop. I have to admit that the mother drama had been getting a bit intense lately, so now with this deal we’ll be able to get back to the normal murder cases. Such fun!
This is one of my favourite shows, I’ve become invested in all the characters and their backstories. I always find the connection between all of them so real, like they’re really friends, and the Beckett/Castle chemistry is powerful. The cases they work are always so intriguing and they are so different and out there because a mystery writer on the team seems to bring an added bit of weird into each episode that I really enjoy.
